托福獨立寫作
同不同意:科學家應該分享成果,政府不應該保密?
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? All scientific discoveries should be shared among scientists all around the world; governments and businesses should not keep any discoveries secret. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
With the sweeping trend of globalization(隨著全球化的風靡), there is a growing tendency for different countries to communicate with one another in various fields. Under this circumstance, an absolute consensus can hardly be reached whether government and businesses should share all scientific discoveries worldwide rather than keep them secret. For my part, I side with opponents based on following sound reason.
To begin with, sharing scientific breakthroughs by the government will pose a potential threat to(構成潛在的威脅) national security and progress to some extent on the grounds that(因為) this practice carries some hidden risks behind it. To be specific, some high-tech innovations are intimately bound up with(密不可分) the safety of the whole country such as weapon development in the military field. If these discoveries fall into the hands of terrorists, it will be a terrible nightmare to all the countries preferring the peace. A case in point is that(例如) the government should maintain the private ownership of nuclear weapons. If all the nations master the key technology or expertise of producing such weapons through sharing with each other, humans will be plagued with(受到—的困擾) a total disaster, even catastrophe undoubtedly, which is the least thing we would expect to see(這是我們最不希望看到的事情).
In addition, businesses have no responsibility and obligations to share their unique inventions and innovations for the reason that they dedicate enormous funds and resources to(投入) their research and development. This is the reason why patents will be granted to some businesses with the aim to protect the ownership of advanced technologies, and then guarantee their motivation to conduct further experiments. Otherwise, sharing the latest achievements with others for free will dampen their enthusiasm and initiative(打擊熱情和積極性), and even worse those businesses have no alternative but to(不得不) be confronted with bankruptcy. For example, some pharmaceutical corporations call for longer period of patent protection for the sake of ensuring new drugs they develop with countless manpower and money will earn sufficient profits, which will offer enough financial incentives to make continuous researches.
It has to be admitted that some scientific share does a great job in(有助于) driving the progress of the whole world forward like the development of Android system(安卓系統), which provide all the technology lovers with a tremendous platform to communicate and share with each other. It is self-evident that(不言自明的是) such open and selfless spirit adds great fuels to(提供了無窮的動力) its swift development. However, the share of all the scientific discoveries does not make any sense based on the analysis mentioned above. There is no denying that people should adopt a comprehensive planning and weigh the boons and banes(利弊) before drawing a hasty conclusion.
In light of the above analysis, I am convinced that it is advisable for humans to harbor the sharing spirit in scientific creativity, but sharing all the scientific discoveries does more harm than good out of question.
