2023年09月23日雅思寫作真題:政府是否應該禁止極限運動(政府類特殊話題)
本題重復2011/7/30,2014/8/9,2020/11/28, 2022/8/27原題。
In contemporary society/in this day and age在當今社會, extreme sports have been gaining in popularity, especially among youngsters. In this case, an absolute consensus can hardly be reached whether the government should prohibit them on the grounds that(因為) they are too dangerous/due to their inherent dangers. For my part, I side with the opponents to a larger extent.
Some people may assert that so-called extreme sports are dangerous, which leads to the fact that(=so that) these activities ought to be strictly restricted. However, they are simplifying the situation. In fact, some elements of risk in such sports may not necessarily trigger danger or injuries to participants. It is universally acknowledged that(=there is a widespread belief that眾所周知) there always are clear regulations and safety procedures to reduce the possibility of accidents. People who take part in extreme sports are usually required to undergo appropriate training in advance so that the dangers will be diminished to the least extent(減到最低的程度). A case in point is that(例如) in New Zealand, anyone who wants to try skydiving will need to sign up for lessons with a registered club, and beginners are not allowed to dive solo. They must be accompanied by an experienced professional. Finally, the protective equipment and technology used in sports from motor racing to mountain climbing is constantly improving safety.
Besides, the reason why I believe that it would be wrong to ban extreme lies in the fact that these activities enable their fans to challenge and enjoy themselves. When they participate in these sports, their brains can be filled with hormone. As a result, it is feasible for them to unwind their stress and achieve spiritual satisfaction. Moreover, we should all be free to decide how we spend our leisure time as long as we understand the risks. An even stronger argument against such a ban would be the difficulty of enforcing it. Many of the most risky sports, like base jumping or big wave surfing, are practiced far away from the reach of any authorities.
As analyzed above, I harbor the belief that it is unreasonable and impractical to wipe out the extreme sports from the list. People should have the opportunity to do the sports that fit them.
